Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) is located approx. 230 km from Antalya and almost as far from Mamaris in the middle of the country. Here you will find hot calcareous springs, unique white and cotton-like mountain formations and a Roman ruined city; Hierapolis.
Pamukkale - the terraces have been created over millennia by the lime-saturated water, from the approx. 35 degrees hot springs, cool down and emit small amounts of lime.
The place is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is one of Turkey's most famous attractions. A unique nature experience that can only be seen in a few places in the world.
We start the drive very early in the morning and head for Antalya.
After we have passed the big city and had breakfast, we continue into the Anatolian highlands. On one of our breaks along the way, we visit a leather shop with the opportunity to shop.
We will visit the beautiful Salza lake, which is slightly salty water, its surface is approximately 44 square kilometers. It is the 3rd deepest lake in Turkey with a depth of up to 184 meters. The lake is one of the most beautiful and current examples of "biological mineralization". Its height above sea level is 1140 m. The presence of magnesium, soda water and clay in the composition of lake water causes beneficial results in the treatment of some skin diseases. According to research by experts, the lake water is good for acne. There are seven white islands that begin to appear as the water in the lake recedes.
We arrive in Pamukkale in the middle of the afternoon and now have approx. 3½ hours to explore the exciting area on your own.
We visit Hierapolis, a famous old Roman spa town with famous attractions including a large theater and a necropolis where one of Jesus' 12 disciples is buried. We visit the famous spa Queen Cleopatra's pool. Here you can swim on top of ancient Roman ruins. The water in the pool and on the terraces is said to have healing properties for skin diseases, muscles and rheumatism. We think it fits! (Entrance to swim in the pool is not included in the price)
On the way back down (if you don't choose the bus) you go via the famous white terraces. Can be highly recommended. A big experience!
On the journey home, we will pass one of Turkey's many onyx jewelery factories, where you will be introduced to how the stones are processed into jewellery.
